F-14 A Farmall

I have a F-14 the identification plate says.
But the steering wheel shaft is level, all the pictures I see the steering shafts are sloping toward the front end, what does this mean?
Also what size rubber would this have the rim measures 40-1/2 inches x 6-1/2

I cant seem to find anyone with a pair of used tires. It will be some time before I get to restoring the tractor and I dont want to spend
much money right now on tires.
Does anyone know where I can find some in any kind of shape?
I also have a A Farmall currently under restoration, and need a hood and complete grill. I have found new ones but the cost is too much. Any Ideas where to look?
The A seems to be wired different than most I have seen. It has a on off pull type switch, and push button to enguage the starter. All the ones I have found are completely different than this? I am not sure how to wire it.
Any help on any of these topics would be greatly appreciated.

someone propaly alterd the stering hight for theire comfort, or took some part from a f-12 for replacement parts. back then farmer would use what they could get.

every now and then you can find hoods and grilles for desent prices on e- bay.

i am curently restoring an a too and it is wired defferenty than oters as well, i can't figure it out.

If you think your A is not wired correctly, go to Bob M's wiring diagrams and check your tractor and make is it is wired like the diagram says. F-12's had the steering shaft low, and the F-14 had it raised up (joint in steering shaft/tall steering post). Check the engine serial number stamped on a smooth flat spot below the fuel pump, see if the number matches the number on the tag. If you have 40" rims, go find a set of 36" rims, 40" tires are very hard to find and extremely expensive.

As far as the steering column on the F14 -- I read somewhere that, when the F14 came out, there were still a lot of F12s on the dealer lots and that IH retrofitted/upgraded them to F14s.

Wherever it was I was reading about that didn't go into a lot of detail about what that retrofit included, as in whether they raised the steering column or not. Going by Guy Fay's Data Book, though, it sounds as if those tractors got new serial numbers. If your serial number is in the range 140000 to 142500 (factory changeover), or 155402 to 155902 (field changeover), it may be one of those that were upgraded

In 70 years that steering may have been modified/rusted/broken. I am the 2nd owner of an F12 with the tall post, my uncle was a big man and needed more leg room. I find this all part of the charm of these old things, of course farmer fixes really upset the correct police.

Best bet for finding tires for those rims is placing an add on this site or watch ebay. You will likely have to search far and wide to find used ones. The modern tire size is 9.5x40" and new ones cost about $525 each. Other thing to do is find a different set of rims and tires like Andy mentioned, but not neccasarily gonna save a whole lot going that way, all depends on the deals you are able to find.

As far as steering id it could be either one, best way to check serial number on the engine and see if it matches that on the tractor, than see if it falls in the range Scotty mentioned. Like others have said, your tractor could have been made that way or could have been farmer modified, wouldnt be the first and wont be the last.

Sounds like your A has a different starter than original and a solenoid is used. Your best plan for the 40in tires would be an add in the classified section.

It's not unusual to have some of the early F-14's with a parallel steering column. I have a friend who thought, as well as his Father and Grandfather that they had two F-12s. When they asked that I date the two tractors for them a few years ago, lo and behold one is an F-14 (matching engine block number). They had both been rebuilt during their working years and the IHC dealership where the work and paint was done put F-12 decals on the F-14 also.

Let's start with an admission: I don't know the answer to your question. BUT.....here is a possibility: Suppose somebody bought the F-14 conversion kit but didn't want to go to the expense or trouble of converting the steering shaft and putting on a u-joint?
