Have figured a way to convert alternator into welder need advice on mounting to belt pulley or any other ideas,or pictures

What type of welder are we talking about? If it is an aircraft generator/ welder, I've seen them mounted on a bracket on the right side frame ahead of the belt pulley & run with a double sheave v- belt thing --using B or C width belts driven from the paper pulley.

will be ac welder made from 200amp alternator, was leaning mounting it to a bracket to run off the belt pulley.if you have any ideas or pics please share

thanks kevin

This is such a sweet setup .. I marveled at it the first time you posted it.

I would like to see your "alternator conversion" if I may. I have been wanting to do this little trick also.

Thank you guys.

My uncle used an aircraft alternator as a welder. He mounted it on a small trailer and powered it with the tractor's PTO.

The collar on alternator's shaft was maybe 4" in diameter, and was contact-driven (no belt) by a tire connected to the PTO shaft via a universal joint. He used it for about 30 years, and as far as I know the only "maintenance" was replacing the welding rod every few minutes.

About ten years ago some one was selling welders for tractors and trucks to used on the farm etc. I will bet you can see all about them by googling . I had a friend in SC that was selling them to all the farmers around Loris and Conway. Henry

For about $700-$800 you can buy a Zena DC high frequency engine welder. I am looking to get one for either my Farmall 504 or Kid 8x8 with a Perkins 4.108 diesel. The leads plug in and are removable and the current adjustment control is on the electrode holder. Also has a "hot start" feature for less sticking. Google them and it will open your eyes. Nice setup.

Glenster, nice rig there. What type, how do you convert an "aircraft generator" to a welder? Is it DC?
