IH socket set

My dad bought an IH 1/2" socket set from the dealer in the mid to late 70's. I guard it well, but last fall I broke the end off of the break over handle. It is beyond repair. Any ideas on what to do with the remainder of the handle? I was thinking about making a pry bar or gasket scraper. I know it is made of good steel and could be sharpened as needed.

Thanks, Gene

Yeah, I am pretty ticked at myself for breaking it. I was abusing it, I should have gottent the 3/4" set but was in a hurry. Other than that the set is complete, in the original tool box.

well gene , before you modify it (or farmerize it) post a picture. maybe the machine shop by me can fix it up for ya. i have him do all kind of goofy "government jobs" for me. (tractor machining). i have some old ih wrenches at the farm. one is a monkey wrench with kind of a hammer knob on the end. couple of multi- wrenches too. i'll have to snap some pics and post em.
oh, last year we were at gastons resort in missori on the white river for dinner, my wife was looking at all the antiques they have hanging on the wall. she was pointing atdifferent tools and stuff saying, oh you have this, and you have that ect. the waitress says to her, oh do you collect antiques?? heck no i said, i still use em!!!

Glenn, What I did was try to unbolt the Super H seat from the rear end cover. On a break over handle you have the two "ears", well I broke one side off. The center part flew off to parts unknown, so the wrench is pretty well ruined. I cant see how you could fix this.

I might luck onto one to complete the set, but then again I bought Illinois lottery tickets before I left the state. They are in the truck at the Chevy dealer in St. Peters MO. where my truck died. (The rest of the story) Mice built a nest in the air breather and it messed up the Cat converter and O2 sensors. Maybe when I pick up the truck tomorrow, I will find the lottery tickets are winners and I will have 60 million and can buy a new set of IH sockets.

I broke an old Wards handle such as you are describing. I just welded the joint tight & we still use it as a breaker bar. Not original---but still usable.
Back in the 70's IH brought out pretty decent tools & battery chargers. I think the chargers were made by Century--good quality for the price as I recall.

Look around at other brands, you can probably find one like it maybe one made by the co. that made IH
Then you can just buy the broken piece. Or maybe it has a lifetime warranty. My old Husky did.
