I just recently aquired a 1942 farmall m. I'm used to Allis Chalmers but figured i would "broaden my horizons" Anyways the bin that holds in the shifter works out after a little loader work and you have to keep pushing it back in, not a big deal just kinda irritating, just wondered what a cheap cure is? Thanks - Ted

If this is the pin that is horizontal and holds the shift lever in the shift tower, there should be 2 saucer type soft plugs to seal the holes and hold the pin in place. I don't recall, but they are either 5/8 or 7/8 inch. They are available at NAPA for sure, but check your favorite parts supplier.

thank you very much...kinda wondered why it kept poppin out on the same side...that's exactly what i needed to know, thank you very much...startin to like this site ha ha

yes, the pin is probaly worn, and the hole too. I think it's 7/16 You can drill it out to 1/2 and make a new pin. In the absence of the small soft plugs I've seen it held in with black electrical tape or a stainless steel clamp. Or yeah, you can use a bolt.

that's what i did for a temporary fix...put electrical tape in a ball and stuck it in there then wound it a time or two at the bottom of the shifter to hold it in...poor people have poor ways ha ha
