M front rims mounting lugs

Hi All. I took the front rims off to get new tires and tubes installed and the bolts weren't right on the right side so I looked in the newest parts book I have and noticed the rims don't look like the pictures. The serial number on the tractor is 134666. I know the front could have been changed out in the past but neither of the pictures match the configuration of this rim. Sooo.. is this rim a after market or maybe a newer style than what my book goes to (TC-28 "H" edition ) which I believe was printed in or near 1960. I also have the "F" edition printed in or near 1952 but it shows the same pictures. This looks like it could be a heavy duty version to hold the weight of a picker or cultivator? I have picker/cultivator hubs on it (the ones with the little nubs that stick through the cover). I couldn't find any info in the parts book on a heavy version except there is a listing with no pictures in the attachments section for a lower bolster to equip cotton picker tractors with dual front wheels.(?) It doesn't bother me but I would like to know what I've got to make getting parts easier. Thanks ! ...Randy

randy, looks like you have a 47 m. maybe i'm not seeing it right but the lug looks correct. heres a pic of a 49 m front wheel, they look the same to me.

Randy I have a 47 M myself and when I got it it had two different kind of front wheels. One the brackets were riveted on.
The other wheel had the brackets welded on. Two of the welded brackets were cracked. I think the riveted wheels were later because of the cracking problems. Just my idea. Bernie Steffen

Thats a rim for what IH called the adjustable tread front wheels. They changed how the loops were mounted to rim a few times or maybe just rims from different manufactures. Cast center is different for your wheel compared to non adjustable rims. The adjustable tread wheels were available early on but lots of early ones had the non adjustable. Later tractors were more common with rim you have in picture.

Failed to add. Don't know if the TC 28 H I have has the pages numbered the same as yours. What I show in Rev. # 5, dated 3-60. your rim is the middle one on page 207.

Hi, That's the one I was comparing to. Most of the time the picture looks like the part that's on the tractor but this one doesn't. The extra two rivets at the bottom of the bevel on my rim aren't shown which is what raised my interest. I just thought they may have made a heavy duty rim at one point that wasn't shown in my parts book. Thanks for the reply. ...Randy

Howdy, That wheel looks great so the rest of the tractor must look great too! Yep, my tractor is a '47 with a M&W cable operated nine speed. It looks like it just came out of a junk yard though as you can tell from the picture of my rim. It starts and runs well and so far I've put all new OE bearings and bushings in everything behind the clutch and rebuilt the upper bolster. Next is new front tires and a better set of rears with rims that aren't broken like one of mine is. After that who knows? ...Randy

Hi Bernie, I've never seen a rim with welded on lugs/brackets. Not something I'd want on my tractor. I've had the front off the ground a couple of times so I wouldn't want the rims to break upon landing. ...Randy
