Farmall A Engine oil

I was just wondering what you experts thought about using synthetic engine oil? Im talking after a complete rebuild and after engine breaking in.

My thoughts are it definitely won't hurt anything but your wallet.

IMHO (and there are bound to be thousands of opinions) synthetic oil's main benefit is dealing with high temperature service. I run it in air-cooled engines....only.

The oil isn't an improvement in lubricity or dealing with acidity...it meets the same API-SM specs as a conventional petro oil.

So, add this to the fact that the API service classification for most of these engines' lives were far less rigid and the engines are mostly still going, and I get right back to the top line in my post. :)

I'm not an expert, but I consider synthetic a waste of money in an engine like that -- maybe any engine, unless you insist on very long change intervals. In a little used tractor that won't help either because of condensation, etc.
