Favorite Farmall!

B-275 LOVE the sound of that tractor and the power it has and jus the sight of looking back while pulling a 3 bottom plow and just seeing the smoke for the engine lugging

For myself, I guess I would have to say the 400 with wide front end. This is not because it is any better than some other models, but because I have operated and operated on one more than any other single tractor. My Dad and Grandfather bought it used in 1965, and at the time it was the biggest tractor in the neighborhood. I was one year old and my first memory is of riding on it on my Dad"s lap while disking, and ever since it has been my favorite. It was my overhaul project in college, where I had literally almost every bolt off it and completely rebuilt it. It hasn"t been used much in the last few years, but every time I visit home, I try to take a ride on it. Brings back many fond memories.

The W-6 dad bought 40 years ago is # 1 for me. Never had anything major done on it , But listening to it bark when pulling 3-16" can let you now it's working!

My favorite tractor would be a farmall 140. When i was younger i spent many hours on that tractor. And my next favorite tractor would be a IH 656,Love them both...

The M I got last spring just makes me smile. Hearing it grunt when its trying to cram a big windrow of hay through the baler does the soul good. Haven't gotten to use my cub the last few years, but maybe when I put it to work in the garden this summer it'll take back the lead. Buuuut, the prospect of having the live power and TA on my recently aquired SMTA to bale with this summer has me a little giddy too.

I Like em all! Think its a disease;-) I want more!

Ben

"H". Greatest small farm tractor ever built, in my opinion. I've got, or have had, B,C,W4,WD6,200,230,686. H is my favorite by far!

Thats a toughie, all around it would be my H. I use it for disking, have a platform for it to use cutting and stacking wood. My C, i use it for plowing, some disking as it pushes quite a bit, culti-packing. My A i just use it to mow the grass as it has a 5ft belly mower. My B, poor thing just sits except to take it to shows. The H brings alot of memories as i grew up on it when i was knee high to a grasshopper, baling hay with it and i had to stand up to push the clutch in.

Without a doubt it has to be the FARMALL A!!!!
Why? Because I own one!
It was the first of the letter series tractors to come out...in 1939, as you know.
It was International's answer to the immensely popular Allis Chalmers B. Ford answered with its 9N. (I also own a 1952 8N).
The name of my A is "Coigun," so named because I sold coins and a gun to buy it!!!
That is my two cents.

My Dad's Favorite Gpa's Farmall M. Same birth year.

Mine Gpa's Farmall 400. First big tractor I drove.

I guess they are ours now that Gpa's gone. 806 was close for me, first big big tractor (over 60 HP)

I have only known a Cub (from when I was born until age 14, driving at age 10) and a 140 that replaced the Cub in 1966 and is still going strong. It's a valiant, reliable machine that has rarely been touched, let alone driven or wrenched, by anyone but me. The 140 does the job, the Cub just couldn't. Nothing against the others, I vote 140 because it's what I have.

No question about it. The SuperB MD can pull better than an H uses, less fuel than a Cub and will help you meet new women if you are not married

How about the F20 a real antique but the first real farm tractor. Used one actively farming until the 60s and occasional use after ward. Still use it to pull hay in.

Without a doubt, hands down, my favorite is a Super A. With the belly mower it mows great. The front blade makes it handy for leveling/pushing limbs. There is nothing it can"t do when called upon around here. It is just the right size and power and it isn"t all that bad on gas.

I have a 400 I use to bush-hog with, a Cub to plow with, two Hs for odd jobs, but to me the Super A is the best, handiest, tractor I have ever owned. There is just something about hearing a well-tuned A...it is one of the sweetest sounds on Earth.

Except for being too small for today's farms there ain't much wrong with an H. The M is bigger and will do more but it is not "fun" like the H is.

F30's are it!! My F30 loves to pull my 3-14 little genius. One great machine. But then, I'm really attached to the old stuff.

That means I have to choose between the Super MTA and the B. Won't do it! Most people love an MTA but I don't see anyone below listing a B. I use the MTA for mowing and baling. The little B with the buddy seat on it does all the rest plus makes for some nice summer night tractor rides with my little girl. OK...leaning toward the B.

The Magnum series 7110,7120"s,, grew up on a 400,560,656Hydro,1066; know my brother still has and uses all of them plus his 7110,7120,7230 and the new PUMA, plus the H for a scraper tractor in the freestall and a lonely Ford 8000 (she has been a great tractor to).

The 826 gear drive. It is the most user friendly, nimble, stout, handy, capable 38 year old in the shed. I have 16 (not all red) but it is the 826 that I tend to use for most jobs. Beat the death out of a 460 gas trike for about 25 years before the 8. The 460, although not powerful, was a smooth, quiet, capable workhorse-the energizer bunny.

Got to agree.... I ran several other brands of small tractors in my younger days and for it's time and size, it was a wonderful little tractor. I would assume the 200 and 230 were the same way, and the straight C was good, but that Fast Hitch made that the best small tractor line "in it's day".

My favorite Farmall is the Super H; because my dad bought one new back in 1954 in So Dak and when I came home from school he let me drive it (I was only a second grader). I have owned the tractor since my folk"s farm sale back in 1979. So I now have owned that tractor longer than my dad, but haven"t put near the hours he and I did when he farmed. I now have 7 tractors and my second favorite is my Farmall MD. Roger

OK I have to say my F-20 is my favorite, BUT My 1928 15-30 McCormick-Deering also melts my heart. (My Valentines from my green loving hubby.) But my dream tractor is a Regular.

My favorite is a 1950 C that my dad bought new, it is fun to play with the old touch control implements. Others have come and gone, but i'll keep the C forever. Dave

I can see that you never ATE one and ya don't have the battle scars from one . The scar along side of my right eye and the lump on my right elbow remind me all the time of the day that the crank from a OC 3 oliver bit me and i have said it before if ya need a crank for a Oliver OC3 it is in the back lake of my uncles old farm about twentyfive feet from shore in about 30 feet of water.

I cant choose between the 400 and the 1086.This time of year the 400 gets more action than the 1086,mainly because of the 33 McCormick loader and the carry all.Spring will be more up to the 1086 for awhile, then hay season kicks in,and the 400 stays on the rake all summer, plus loader duty, but the cab and air are a life saver when the raking is done

My first Farmall, Super C,but I really like the International 504 with the loader and the Farmall 504 has shiny RED paint and new tires on it.

We've got 8 tractors, this isn't my "most-used", but, it's my favorite

340 It's the only big Farmall I have. When I was about two, I got a toy 560 and have always liked the style of that series. The toy tractor sits on the living room table and the 340 goes under the garage door. My Farmall w/factory utility wide front lacks power steering. It has been on a tractor ride, gets to go for breakfast once in a while, takes me the 10 mile round trip to mom's to mow her lawn and pulls my trailer hauling brush.

#1 My SMTA Diesel, alot of fun on plow day with the 311 Fast Hitch plow. Uses half the fuel of a gasser M.

#2 1066, LOVE the sound of that Turbo!

#3 826 gear drive. Smooth running german diesel, perfect weight, size and hp balance.

Been on several from A to 1026 Hydro, loved them all. Currently own 41 A, 53 Super A, 50 M, 57 450D, 86 580D backhoe, Soon bringing back grandpa's 36 F-20.
Adrian.

My quick and easy answer is any of the "letter series", but I have favorites among them. I love the "A" because of its offset configuration, the "MD" because of its unique starting sequence and its edge in real power over the "M", and the "W9" due to its awsome beller under a load especially when muffled only with a straight pipe.......What's that you say? Might as well include the "C" as it did more in my lifetime to make cultivating a much easier chore than wrestling with the "H" or "M" units, or even the "A" for that matter.

Of the forty or so Farmall's in my collection my favorites in order of importance to me are:

1. 1955 Super HTA
2. 1954 Super H
3. 1954 Super MTA
4. 52-54 Super M

IH Farmalls are an important part of our heritage that we should always respect.

Frank

Of the 40+ Farmalls in our collection I would choose the 1933 F-12 Waukesha with Kay Bruhner Wheels for fun and parade and for heavy field work I would grab the 1468 V-8 with cab air and heat.

My "newest" Farmall was a '54 Super M that I got to spend some time with on a relative's farm over the past few years, so I can't comment on the newer and bigger stuff. From about the age of 12 on, I spent quite a lot of time on an F-20 and thought that was just about "it"--such a torquey brute, a rough-rider, needed a firm hand on the wheel sometimes (makes a scrawny kid feel about 6 feet tall!), great barking sound that probably didn't do my hearing any good. Then my father acquired a couple of Hs in succession. Loved 'em for being much easier on the bod, but wasn't too happy with the small amount of torque available in hard spots. Still, they were almost as "handy" as our F-12, useable for any number of light chores as well as the heavy field work, easy to drive, far less kickback in the steering than with the F-20, comfortable seat and platform, pretty nice placement of controls (but not perfect--I thought the gearshift was in a clumsy place if you had to shift very often, and I didn't like having to reach way forward for the throttle if you were turned around looking at something behind you, like a combine or a mower). With a muffler, fairly quiet. Overall, much more refined than the F-20. I also had quite a few occasions to work with a neighbor on his A, and I now think back on all the tractors I've used and would have to say that the A was a real delight: Great platform, comfortable seat, excellent steering-wheel position, controls "to hand," as the car mag writers say, wonderful vision, smooth, snappy engine, very good gear ratios for having only 4 speeds. But how can you pick just ONE, when they won't all do the same work? If I could use a small tractor right now, I'd opt for one of the A thru 140 series, just because they are so comfortable. For nostalgia, of course, it would have to be an A, because it would take me back to my callow youth in the 40s. The newer variants would actually be more useful, thanks to the hydraulics.
