Farmall H Tires

I have a 1952 Farmall H. What kind and size tires would have come on the tractor when it was new? I have heard several different things as far as the rear tires are concerned and would like to find out so I can have the correct tires on it. Thanks in advance
 
I have an original IHC "Farmall System of Farming" brochure from about 1942. Tires are listed as 10-38 rear, 5.50-16 front. It may be that over time, IHC put wider rims/tires on. Don't have any info from the 1950s.
 
Measure the inside width of the rim where the tire bead rest. Then add 1.
10" = 11.2
11" = 12.4
12" = 13.6
I think most tires on H's back then were either 11.2 x 38 or 12.4 x 38 with the 45* bar tread.

"Back then" tires of that era (1940-1960) were 10X38. 11X38 was a factory option. Most were 10X38. 45 degree bars were unknown in those days.

Today's tires go by more elaborate sizings and nearly all have 45 degree bars. Your tire salesman should know how to compare today's tires with yesterday's tires; if he can't do that, go to a dealer that can be of more help.

Miller Tire in Ohio makes the old bar patterns, and are pricey, but sure look nice. I wish I had put them on my H.
 
At least 6 to 8 different tire sizes could be speced for H, 10x38 equiv. to todays 11.2x38 was probaly most common.
 
In 1952 most new H's came with 11-38 rear tires and 5.50-16 front tires. It's true the earlier H's came with 10-38 rear tires but about 1950 most new tractors came with the larger 11-38's. The most popular design was the 45 degree long bar-long bar type by then although Goodrich had the "check bar" looking things before switching to the open center long bar-long bar style that was Goodyear's design since about 1940. Firestone went to that design about 1950 too. Currently the Polish Goodrich 12.4-38's from Miller's are about as close to the original design as anything you can buy. I always buy Titan 30 degree long bar-long bar tires because they are American made, competively priced and sort of resemble the old style tires.
