Farmall MDyear?

Hello, brought home MD today. Serial number tag is missing but I was able to find a serial number on the block above the injector pump. DBK 14717 was stamped there. I find casting codes of W and Z. Has a three bolt starter and a belly pump. Thanks, Mike.

Has to be a SMD with that number and casting codes. My chart shows it to be a 1953 model according to that number.

If you have X and Z date codes some part or parts are replaced or parts of tractors switched. All the diesels used 3 bolt starters.
Engine # is for a MD engine.

My book says the first MD was 25,000+ so I figured that had to be a SMD number. Didn't have anything about the prefix in it.

I see several differnt casting codes so I am pretty sure the tractor had a tough life. I just was not sure if it could be dated from the engine serial number. Thanks for the info, Mike S.

Engine numbers for diesel M tractors are a lot different than the chassis #. SMD engines never made it as high as the # posted. Less than 8000 in a SMD and 11595 or lower in a SMTAD. Prefix posted is part of a MD engine prefix.
