OK, I Need to Start Painting an A

Well, I decided AGAINST using hardeners because of the iso hazards.
I am going to brush on my cast.
I am zeroing in on International 2150.
BUT, I want to know if this is one of the colors that people say looks TOO ORANGE.
I am aware that 2150 may not be completely authentic, but I have heard good enough things about it.
Just don't want an orange looking red.
Thanks,
Tom

Buy a quart of it and see what you think. Clean a small area and brush/spray it on, or an old piece of metal. Yes it is the one with the orange tint -- to some peoples eyes. The color that came on you A was IH 50 -- PPG 70019/DuPont 7410,etc. It is acrylic enamel, does not need hardener--slightly better than the 2150 acrylic modified alkyd enamel.

I've painted a gob of tractors with 2150 in the last ten years and nobody has complained that I know of. But I do understand there are people who would gripe if you hung them with a new rope.

Make sure you use a gray or black primer under the red paint. That will help alot. AThe 2150 works OK, but if you brush it on the cast parts, it may come out darker than sprayinng the sheetmetal.

I had ok, results with 2150, but the harderner, really makes it shine and not fade.

If it ended up darker than expected, it's probably because you didn't use enough paint. I like to begin painting at one of the rear axles, work my way all the way around the tractor and back to the original starting point, and then start all over again immediately. After completing the second coat, wait several hours, but do not allow the paint to fully cure before starting on the third coat. Cast iron will soak up a lot of paint and may require 4 to 5 coats or even more to produce that bright red finish.

Hardener may give a higher gloss, but it does nothing to prevent fading. That is done by the UV inhibitors in the paint, hardener does not have any.

More paint is the key I guess. I asked about the orange color here about a week ago. Since then Dad painted the W400 again and says he's much happier with the color now that there's another coat or two on there.
