H and M Oil Filters houseings

I am wondering on the H did they use 2 different size oil filter houseings? I have a 39 M and it has the big filter housing and I have a 39 H and it has a small filter houseing. I am wondering should this H use the larger?

I know there are two different sized housings (and filters) in application on different years for the H alone. I own 2 Hs and, yup, as if I didn't have enough to keep track of, they've each got their own filter size. I'm sure there will be a variety of opinions on this but, I wouldn't go to the trouble of changing from one size to the other. I'd spend my time and money on just making sure to get the appropriate filter changed frequently enough.

Early models used the tall filters later they went to the shortones all you have to do is change the housing and bolt and then it will go on any model same with the A,B and Ms as they all used the tall ones in earlier models.

The 39 M uses a filter that is larger diameter and about the same height as the tall H filter. This is the same as the later Ms used as well as the hundred series tractors. Later Hs used a shorter filter. Are you confused now? OK the F12 F20 & F30 also use the tall skinny filter as your H. The 39 M filter will fit a W9. And yeah, the skinny filters, tall and short, will interchange by changing the can.
