super c igniton timming

what is the correct way to set the timming on the super c. Just replace timming gears, all marks lined up perfect on gears, tractor cranks and runs good, but has no power.

You could use a timing light. Are you sure the distributor isn't a tooth or so off. You could bring No1 piston near the radiator to TDC on the compression stroke and then remove the cap and see where your rotor is pointing. Should be at the No1 plug tower. Hal

Must not be out of time or it wouldnt start good. Have you set the linkage going to the carb from the gov and is the input shaft good doing into the gov housing. There is a thrust bearing in the gov and maybe a new spring is needed. With a timing lite and the TDC marked on the flywheel you can see if the dist advances when throttle is advanced.
