well, I need some ideas and help to figure this one out. The governor spring on my B snapped and I replaced it with a new one from the dealer. When I installed it it made all of the adjustments (speed control and surge bumper) way off. For the speed control adjustment, I had to spin the little yolk back about 20 revolutions to made it so the clevis pin would go in with the carb at max position. for the surge bumper, I had to turn it all the way in, not only so that there weren"t ant threads left for the acorn nut, but so the bumper took over for the low idle.
So, I just finished re-bushing the input shaft and while it is a little better, it still is hunting. I know something is wrong, but what?
Here are some additional symptoms: the engine is hunting at low idle AND at max idle, and everywhere in between, most of the speed change responce seemes to happen in the middle of the range. That is, first few notches don"t do much then some in the middle make it race, then the last few don"t do much. Prior to the sprig snapping, the speed change response was fine and very smooth. Now it is abrupt (The front wheel came off the ground a little with a disc attached to the back when I was testing it out!)
My theory is that the old spring that broke was not the right one and the old owner made it work through adjusting it or skullduggery. Now that the new spring (is it the correct one?) is in it older mis-adjustments are showing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
