Offset Tractor PTO Overrunning Clutch

Ok Experts -- would this work ?

(Mine is a 100) A,SA,100,130,140

Tractor PTO Shaft to Female Coupler to U-Joint to Female Coupler (this makes the direction change (angle) toward shredder gearbox)

Male of Overrunning Clutch (into Female Coupler #2 ) to Male Driveshaft End into Female side of Overrunning Clutch. I would have to significantly shorten the driveshaft.

I guess my question is -- is there enough support, if any is needed?

I've never seen one set up for an offset engine, but I'm tired of being pushed into trees & fences.

Normally, on a center-engine tractor, you would put the OR Clutch directly on the Tractor Output PTO Shaft. You may not even have to shorten the pto shaft to the implement.

With the offset engine of my 100, I'm afraid that if you put the OR Clutch on the tractor shaft, then turn the angle to the shredder, there would be too much angle for a u-joint to work properly. The way mine is set up now, it's already almost too much angle.

It won't matter which end you put it on. The angle will end up the same.

What you need to do is hitch the shredder offset to the left to straighten out the PTO shaft.

You need to pop the tranny out of gear quick or move the pto lever out of gear thats the way we did it before having the over running devices. If you would have used a pick-up doing windrowed oats, wheat or similair crops with pto combine you learned real quick when you came to a big bunch rather than plugging the cyclinder

I understand about the increased angle. That's why I've never used one. I use brakes and clutch and not had a problem.

Reversing the OR Clutch may prevent it from working if it only slips in one direction. Need to verify that first. Also I'm pretty sure the clutch needs to lock on both the male and female ends with some sort of pin.

A quick hand to pto lever & quick foot to the clutch was learned many years ago growing up on Dad's 240 with no live pto clutch.

I'm thinking forward on this 100 project, as sooner or later, I hope to be putting grandkids on it to give this old man some releif. And some joy of passing on our American farming heritage !

How about you Hugh -- can I double-female pto couplers ?

I added an OR clutch to my 140 with 6-foot Bush Hog (capital letters intentional) pull-behind. I put the female-to-male clutch on the PTO shaft and the u-joint of the Bush Hog driveline on the OR clutch. Mower is hitched straight behind the PTO on the left side of the drawbar. I had to shorten driveline as it was already at minimum length. It's been on there about ten years and seems robust.

I was pretty good at popping PTO out when I had to but the OR clutch lets me mow in funky spots spots I couldn't get to without it--there's one spot I back into.
