mounting an alternator onto an H

I have a GM one wire alternator to put on my H. I want to mount it so that I do not need to cut the hood. I am certain that I have seen that done before and am hoping that some of you fine guys can give me a few pics of your setup and help me mount my alt. Thanks
Brad

Brad, I went thru two one wire alternators on my H and consistently had problems exciting the alternator to charge. I cured the problem by switching alternators and going with Bob M's three wire alternator set up. I havent looked back. I hope this may be a little advise to save some trouble in the future. The mouning bracket will be the same for both alternators. Matt

GM alternators with built in regulators are to big they just don't fit. Matt's answer is right it needs to be a 3 wire if you want to use a GM.
If you can leave it 6 volts.

The one wire conversion alternators have the same external (are the same frame) as the 3 wire unit previously mentioned. The one wire systems seem to be troublesome for some people, and just the ticket for others. I do not like them because the three wire system is bullet proof. JimN

I can go either 3 wire or one wire. I have a one wire now just need to figure out how to mount it under the hood. wiring it up may not be a huge problem cause I live close enough to the starter/alt. shop and the guy will work with me to get it correct.

Flipping the original Generator mount over (upside down)and using a longer bolt with spacers to place the alternator forward and back, then fabricating a top adjuster to replace the original will do it.
Measuring and being fussy with the belt size is the key. There are pictures in the parts and pieces category to the left. JimN

It is tight, but it WILL fit. If a GM alternator will fit under the hood of a Cub, it'll certainly fit under the hood of an H.

Do NOT cut the hood under any circumstances.

If you use the shortest belt possible, that is putting the belt on and then mount the alt,the belt has to be tight after the alt is bolted up tight. This is the only method I found works without shimming out the sheetmetal.

Not mine, but here:

Two quick improvements on Steven f/AZ's pictures:

1. Use a 3/8" all thread or long bolt to secure the alternator to both arms of the bracket. That setup is a little wobbly as-is.

2. The idler pulley can be eliminated with the right size belt.
