Farmall C compression problems

Hi, My Farmall C has 50 LBS of compression in the number 1 cylender and 52 LBS in number 3 and 150 LBS in number 2 and 150 LBS in number 4. Can the motor run with this compression problem ?
Any help is appericated.
 
The cylinders with low compression have you tried putting about 2 table spoons of oil in the cylinders and then check the compression and see what you read. If the compression does not come come up you have valve problems. If the compression comes up the rings are your problem.
I have used this method on a lot of motors and have had good luck with it.
 
I forgot to answer the other question. If your test results show valve problems. Pull the head and fix it don't run it. You will burn out your valve seats. It may be just burned valves and some times you can just lap them.

The low cylinders are # one and # three.

To answer the original question "Can the motor run with this compression problem ?" the answer is yes, it should run. But most likely not very well. It certainly will be low on power.
 
Take the tappet cover off amd check the valve lash it should be set at 14 thous. That will also be a good time to inspect the valves to see if they are opening and closing when you ruen the engine over with the starter. Removing the plugs easier. If you have a strong lite you can see the tops of the pistons and note their condition. All is not lost as the two cycls with weak compression mite be such a simple thing as tappet clearence or gummu valves.
 

I had lower compression on #1 (on a 140, 120 psi vs 150 psi on 2,3, & 4) until I reamed the plug hole threads (18mm) so the pressure gauge fitting could seat properly. If the compression is really that low combustion will be poor and the cylinders will probably get gummed up. I would ream the threads and use anti sieze on the plug/fitting threads.

My manual says set 0.014 in. on intake valves, and 0.020 on exhaust valves. I've heard others say set all at 0.014 in.? I use the manual settings and haven't had a problem. Isn't there more danger of burning exhaust valves if they are set at 0.014 in.?
 
Roll it up to TDC (ready to fire) for one of the bad cylinders. Use a rubber tip blow gun (or cylinder leakage testor) and pressurize the cylinder. Check items such as intake port, exhaust port, other cylinders through spark plug hole, radiator, crankcase, etc for where loss of air is.
