A friend has a M,not a Super M and he says he has overdrive on it,It has a push pull knob like AC WD uses for its pulley,He was asking why it dont work, has anyone ever seen one like that? Thanks in advance

The device he is talking about is called a 9 speed.
It was produced by several companies M&W, and Hiesler, to name 2. They are like an overdrive in some ways. and not in others. Many overdrives are after the transmission. These are in the trans affecting 1-2-3-4th gears only, leaving 5th (a direct to output shaft coupling)alone. When working it will not go faster than fifth would normally, it does give 4 gears in between the original 4th, and original 5th. Desirable yes. reparable probably. The most likely problem is a linkage issue. A stuck cable, or actuator.
Less probable but worse is broken internal components and or gears. JimN

If that overdrive has a cable shift linkage the cable could be broke or disconected internally. If mechanical linkage first place to look is where shaft comes out of the trans. housing. The lever that attatches to that shaft could be loose on the shaft. Also as was stated could be stuck cable if cable linkage. To free-up cable use lots of Break-a-way. Armand

Take the belt pulley off(if it has one or the delete cover if no belt pulley) and there will be another cover to take off. Also remove the operators deck to see inside the trans. Than split tractor only if needed. Let us know what you find. Armand
