Cub won't start

Cub has gas, and a very weak spark. I have had the dist out and put in new points, rotor, cap is good, I think it is the coil, as I can hold the plug wire when turning it over. My question is where can the original coil be purchased and what is the approx cost. Thanks...Darald

Your local NAPA store will have the coil. About $30.Also, have you checked the distributor cap and rotor? I had a spark problem with my cub and it turned out to be the contacts in the distributor were worn out. Replaced, and no more problems.

If you have a distributor you need a fully charged battery as you may not have enough battery
voltage for your ignition while cranking. Hal
PS: Measure your battery voltage across the battery posts with a volt meter while cranking the engine to see what it is.

should have a blue spark if not check points one more time to see if they spark good if so i would check plug wires [have had problem there before]

When you are asking about the original style coil, it depends on which style you have. If yours has the two primary wires on one end and the secondary wire at the other end, that one has not been available for about 50 years. If you really want that style you are going to have to find a used one.

Once you determine it is the coil, original style coils are available from OEM tractor parts. They have both 6 and 12 volt models. The cost is $56.00.
