52 Super M coil

seems mine is bad as I can grab a hold of the wire and not get zapped when cranking.
it has a 12 volt battery should I get a 6 volt coil or a 12 volt one? is there something special about the super m coil? as it looks awful small compared to other coils.
thanks for any help

If a 6 volt coil you need a ballast resistor. NAPA has "12" volt coils that do not need the external resistor -- that is what I use.

There can be a ton of things BESIDES THE COIL causing her not to spark, if you want you can work through my Troubleshooting Procedure below. If you actualy need a coil Id opt for a full true 12 volt coil NO BALLAST REQUIRED

thanks for the info. the SM was running and just did nothing but crank.
no fire attempt at all .
the coil looks pretty old.

Clean those points with some 320 wet or dry until shiny. If they're pitted replace them. With your points open make sure your're getting battery voltage to the small terminals on your coil. Use a volt meter or test lite. As been mentioned NAPA 's IC14SB coil has a builtin ballast resistor for about $18.00. Remember if your battery is negative grounded your wire from the coil to the points needs to be on negative terminal of the coil. Replace the condenser first to see if it will start. Hal
