I don't see many farmalls with the single front wheel, Most I see have two wheels side by side. What is the advantage of one single front wheel? Stan

Most tractor mounted cotton pickers were single front wheel. Back in day of one row mounted pickers cotton was cultivated 5 or 6 times more or less and by picking time you had thrown up pretty good bed. Single front would run down in center furrow making picker easier to steer than dual wheels that had to straddle furrow.

I think some of it was to go between narrower rows so you didn"t damage the plants as much. The farm i work at has there original super c"s that have single front wheels. They used them in the strawberry fields to not run over the plants. They don"t have strawberries anymore and they still use a couple of them every now and then to cultivate between the raspberry rows.
