I have a 49 cub that I just bought I went to start it after getting it home and it had no oil pressure , I removed the gauge and cleaned it while the gauge was out I turned the motor over a few times and noticed no oil coming out, so I removed the oil filter cap and seen that no oil was even getting to the filter , so I removed the oil pan to check the strainer and pickup tube for blockage every thing was clear
Do I have a faulty oil pump and if so are they still availble from Case IH or what could be the problem be

Good catch on the zero oil pressure.

I think I'd check 3 items. 1) does the oil pump have positive drive torque? 2) are there any holes or voids in the pickup tube (analogy is a hole in the sidewall of a drinking straw) and 3) open it up down to the gearset to check condition. The clearances are pretty close and a lot of wear inside would likely make it not pump. However, being constantly bathed in oil...wear should ideally be minimized.

As long as the oil level is proper, and the above are OK, the pump should self-prime. If not, I'd guess another oil pump should be available as good/used.

Maybe it just needs to be primed. There's a plug on the rear outside edge of the block near the oil pump for priming.
K-Mo

A Cub oil pump will not prime itself after a rebuild or a long period of nonuse. Remove the plug K-Mo mentioned and pump in oil with a oil can to reprime.

If you remove the oil filter cap you will note a small hole inside the filter housing. You can use that hole for priming the pump too. (just in case the plug on the rear of the block is stubborn)

If it's a new rebuilt engine, it is possible that the rebuilder left out an oil gallery plug (1/8 NPT). One that is sometimes left out is behind the tappet cover which is behind the carb. Hard to see it.
