I just bought this 1947 Farmall H and new that is had some rear end nois. When I opened the plug on the left side I found a bit of rustice looking water come out, So I will flush the trans and rearend with diesel fuel and put in new oil dose any one know how much it will hold and how hard is it to get a gasket for the top plate if I pull it off to clean out the gunk thanks

CaseIH has the gasket, haven't bought one lately. Look up the price on www.external_link. It holds 6 gal of 90W.

We had the transmission top cover off Dad's H to replace 2 broken gears. Put the cover back on using Permatex Ultra Black silicone gasket maker, Ultra Black is more oil reistant than the blue. Worked out good, no leaks.

You can find large sheets (36" wide) of a heavy (1/8") fiber gasket material and cut your own gasket. I've used this material for several applications and it works great. I believe I got mine from MSC but I it's available all over.

I drained rusty water out of mine and the new oil didn't help with the noise one bit. I ended up replacing every bearing it the trans and rear end.
