Super A rear axle

Charlie: It will but the drilled holes for drawbar and other attachments are not the same.

I saw your other thread, what is your Super A serial number? In late 1953 those final drives changed a bit, brakes became same as 100, 130 and 140. The case hardening of the gears changed as well, they are harder. This could be your problem. I have a blue ribbon service manual for a 140. In discussion with a fellow couple months back, his Super A was not exactly same, re spacers and washers on that axle. I haven't sorted it all out yet, but it sounds like changes were made couple times in 53.

There were more changes made to this little offset tractor during Super A production, than during the rest of the 40 year production of A, SA, 100, 130 and 140, this includes model change.

Hugh, the serial number on the Super A is 325908. The casting number from the right rear axle housing is 9812DA. I'm almost at the point of buying a axle and a housing and replace everything if I can find one in the southeast. Thanks.

Hugh: I pulled the axle housing off today and slid the brake drum closer towards the axle housing. I didn't have any binding and it bolted right up. I guess the brake drum was touching the differential shaft housing causing the axle to lock-up. Both axles/housings are on but I heard a noise in the left side. I started the tractor in first & second gears. Both sides have new brake bands. Thanks for your help.
