B-275 differential transmission rebuild

Hi:

Have decided to replace the cracked case on my B-275. I have access to a used case and would like input on this procedure before I begin.

I have the manual sold through YTD which I used to do an in frame overhaul.

Shouldn't be any harder than rebuilding a triple countershaft Mack, but maybe there are shortcuts, hints and caveats from those who have actually been inside one.

What parts may be required, which ones should be replaced while I'm in there?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Seems you could buy an entire tractor cheaper than doing all that work unless you're buying cheap. I have a bunch of B275s and the most I ever paid for one was $800. Also have a 3414 industrial backhoe/loader that is basically, a B275 painted yellow. All great tractors but . . . parts for diesels are easy to get and cheap, and gas engine parts less common and more pricey (BC144 and BD144).
You've got a sliding gear trans with high and low range. All pretty straight forward. Make sure bearings are good and tight, and make sure the gear teeth are still good where they engage with one-another.

By the way, two of my B275s have had extensive weld repairs on the transmission cases with many, long deep welds. Kind of amazing, but one looks like it was literally torn in half at one time. I've been using it for years and it's been holding toteher fine, though.

B275s have a tendency to crack engine blocks beyond repair by the main bearing webs. So, if you plan on spending money on your tractor, you might want to check that area first.
