Farmall H fan belt adjustment

I"m restoreing an H and can"t figure out how to loosen the fan belt so I can put on the Generator belt. Any suggestions out there?

The fan belt is adjusted the same way as the generator belt. Both of those adjustable pulleys may be stuck with rust and will require generous amounts of penetrating oil and possible even heat to free them up.

if you are talking about the big belt that drives the water pump from the crankshaft, the top pulley on the water pump is where you need to be. the pulleyhalf nearest the fan is threaded and the half unscrews toward the fan. there is a small bolt with a locknut that goes thru the pulley to a flat area of threads on the water pump other half of the pulley. remove the bolt completely. soak up the threads real good with your favorite penetrating oil. then soak er up again. there is a raised boss a little ways around that pulley, i use a brass drift to tap the half loose. unscrew it toward the fan and the belt will come off the crank pulley, then you can work the genny belt around. here is a pic, this is an m but the same deal

You might be able to just wrestle the fan belt off. I used a tire iron and got it over the pulley without much trouble.

Thanks for your comments and picture, I'll be able to do it tomorrow with your info. If you have time you can see what else we work on at our website flyingcircusairshow.com. Thanks again, restorer in VA
