Mike's Radiator Grill fit

I measured the distance between my restored H Grill and the bolster There is about 3/16 inch clearance at the front of the bolster and maybe 1/4 inch at the frame rails. I used that .300
conveyor belt material for the pads I cut.
Is it possible you have a radiator off something other than an H?
What is the current space at the bolster you are showing?
I'll send some of that rubber along with the support.

mike, if you need to vary the thickness of the pads to shim the rad up and down, keep yer eyes out along the highway for a semi truck mudflap. most have a thick band around the outside of the flap, and the inners of the flap are between 3/16 and a 1/4 inch. then just get out yer handy dandy drille and a hole saw bit and make up a bunch of em.

Gordo, anything is possible. Maybe it a Chinese radiator. Who knows. Thanks for the belt material. I'll give it a shot.

Glenn, I'll keep an eye out. Thanks.

Im starting to wonder if he didnt get gas tank pads instead of radiator pads. I got some gas tank pads from OEM and they were pretty thick. Had I decided to use them, everything would have been out of whack all the way up to the front.

I got a gas tank kit as well. The pads were different... I think.

Man, now I'm wonderin'...

Well, I'm tearing it down to replace the genny belt anyway, might as well make sure when I do.

Mike, the radiator mounting pads and the fuel tank mounting pads are the same exact part number. If the pads were wrong, the steering shaft would not fit through that hole in the radiator.

I hear ya Loren, and technically it's fine. But the shaft [i:61cbef0aa3]is[/i:61cbef0aa3] sitting at the very bottom of that hole in the rear. So it does have room to come down, which will bring the grill down closer to the bolster.

I'll need to measure how far down it needs to come, but it's not a lot... but enough.

When I went to th edealer for gas tank pads they gave me radiator pads and said they were the same thing just a different OD. I haven't installed mine yet so I can measure them when I go outside.

Your radiator should be mounted so that the steering shaft in in the center of the hole through the radiator. You need to have some pad thickness under the radiator so that vibration does not cause wear on the bottom tank. On pressure style radiators you can adjust the position of the top of the radiator to get the best fit front to back. If your steering shaft only hits on the back you probable need to adjust the top rod to make it shorter. If you go too far either way the grill will not fit correctly.
