Was at Albany pioneer days and didnt see one of mine there, was hoping I would, and maybe find some more info. Any way, I am still trying to find out how many 1970 International Farmall 544 Diesel Rowcrop Hydro's were made. A few people at the show didnt even realize that some were made. It cant be that rare. I did see 2 544 gas gear models. Can any one help me. It would just be nice to know how abundant my tractor was.

They were made from 68 to 73 now how many of them were diesels and hydro tractors would be a guess. Im looking at the serial numbers and all together it looks like there was only 6 or 7 thousand made for the whole 5 years so some were diesels and some were gas, my guess is there would only be 10 to 20 percent hydro and half of those would be gas. I dont know if you will be able to find out the exact number. Good luck Erik..

There is no way to know the actual production number specifics of each model. Those records were all destroyed with the Tennaco take over of IH. I do know that a diesel, hydro, Farmall rowcrop 544 is very rare. Most were gassers as people who bought that size of a tractor wanted them for year round chore tractors. Gassers started in the winter and were much better with light use.

For the gas vs. diesel part of your question, a quick look at the Wisconsin Historical Society records (production fecords for the Farmall Works, from 11/1/1969 - 10/31/1970) shows 953 Farmall 544s built during that period.

In gear drives, 387 of those were gas, and 287 diesel. In Hydros (designated as FH544s), 139 were gas and 140 diesels.

The archive site has similar numbers for the following production year. Numbers were lower in that year, but the proportions of gas-to-diesel and geared-to-hydro were similar.

The records of narrow fronts vs. wide are lost, if they were ever kept at all.

The link takes you to the front page of the Farmall Works records, with a directory by year on the left.

Hope this helps.
