Worked on my 400 this week

Spent some time working on my 400 Monday & Tuesday. Had to take the engine apart to have the crankshaft ground, so I decided to check out the TA and tranny/final drive as well. Good thing I did! I found several worn parts in the TA and main clutch. It was a good couple of days in that I got everything apart without too much trouble, but bad because of bad parts I found :'( Oh well, it is only money, there goes this week's paycheck :'(

Click the link below for an eBay page where you
will find 3 dealers selling new IPTO driving gear
and shaft. Cheapest one is offered at $85 plus
shipping. Those sellers may have other new IH
surplus parts you can use. You will have to email
them.

I'll bet the large driven gear and separate shaft
at the bottom of the center section also has worn splines.

Be aware that some 560 IPTO parts are different.
The gear ratio was changed.

Thanks for the help, Wardner, I already saw, and bought, the IPTO drive shaft on ebay for $85, pretty good price when the dealer wants $515 for it and new aftermarket is $221. I have found and ordered a new clutch backplate, clutch shaft coupler and TA primary sun gear. The splines in the lower shaft which drive the IPTO are all ok and I am glad of that!

Looks like a lot of work! If you weren't spending your money on old tractors you'd just be wasting it on food, utilites,mortgage and family! I personally think you chose wisely!

Glad you got the good deal on the IPTO gear. Way
to go.

This may sound weird but how much do you want
(shipping included) for your old gear? I will be
cutting off the hollow shaft sections and broaching a
keyway in just the gear. I am adding two PTO
shafts to the bottom of the center section.

I think the USPS will mail it for $7 if weighs
less than seven pounds and you use their box.
