farmall super w6

good morning, i just purchased a super w6 for $800 that hasnt been run in over 20+ years but stored in the barn. not sure what year it is but when i turned the hand crank she turned. can someone give me the step by step precedure on how to go about getting her to fire? like change the gas , oil etc.? any thing special i can do.. thank you and have a great day.

If you go to www.powerblocktv.com you should be able to buy DVDs of old shows. About 3 years ago, during Stacy David's last season as host of "Trucks" he did a show about dragging an old Dodge Power Wagon out of a field and getting it running again. The same principles will apply to your Super W6...

1. Change all the fluids.
2. Clean, and rebuild the carburetor.
3. Inspect wiring, replace as necessary.
4. Do a complete ignition tuneup.
5. Replace the battery.

Man, if only I could come across a deal like that... You are one lucky son of a sailor.

now is the time to lube your cyls. with oil by removing the plugs and squirt some in . it will even build you some compression so it will start.sitting that long everything is dry, and it will just freewheel over.once there seized up its too late to oil them, the damage is done by the rust.

I'd be inclined to remove the valve cover and squirt some oil on the rockers and a little on the valve stems. Don't remember if the gen and starter have oilers, but if so, some oil on those bearings would be good. Does the clutch throwout bearing have a lube fitting? I'd loosen the transmission drain plug (plugs?) and see if there is any water in there. If so, it is probably all in the bottom and might not
hurt the oil (any opinions from others out there in Tractor Land on this?). Before moving the tractor under its own power, give some grease to any of the fittings. If the front wheels don't have fittings, it might be a good idea to take off the caps and see what it looks like in there (dried up grease?).
It's obvious that I don't know this particular tractor very well, so I'm making some shots-in-the-dark based on experience with other IHC tractors of that vintage.
Bet there's a lot of us would like to be there when she starts! Let's have some pictures when you can post them.

thank you everyone for the tips, this is gonna be my first tractor.im 38 yrs old an i've been on this tractor on my uncles dairy farm since i was about 10-12 yrs old.he's been retired now for 20+years and he's finally gonna let her go and im proud and honered to get her! she needs quit a bit of TLC... but it will be worth it.ok heres some pictures, could'nt really get the whole tractor in the pic thou. only problem is i cant get her till spring, bummer!again thanks for the tips.have a great day.

Nice to be able to acquire an old tractor you have such fond memories of and keep it in the family. When you restore it you might want to have some Kleenex's around for you and the uncle, priceless as you have MasterCard for everything else. Take care and congradulations on your new tractor - I certainly wished I could have located one of my grandpas's old Farmalls, Hal.
