300 Water Temp.

My 300 doesn't get out of the "cold" area on the temp guage, it stays about half or 3/4 of the "cold" word. I don't have the chance to work it hard right now to see if it will get warmer. Is that about normal for puttin' around with no load or should I replace the thermostat and see if it will get warmer?

Also, does anyone know of a good radiator shop in Southern Illinois or St. Louis area. Seems all the ones people used to use have gone away.

If everything is right the temp gage should come at least to the bottom end of the RUN range just putting around with no load.

But the "low temp" problem could also be the temp gage reading lower than actual water temp. (Not unusual to happen as the gage wears out).

You can test by removing the sending bulb from the head and immersing it in a pan of boiling water. If the gage is working the hand should stop near the very top of the RUN band.

The last 2 heat guages I bought from CIH failed,They would register normal the first few times then stick on normal. Now they start at normal and peg out when warmed up.
