1466 3 point jambed in the up position

While plowing today, I pulled the 3 point lever up quickly and the 3 point arms went up way beond their proper position and are now jambed up against the lever casting. I would say they are 12 inches higher thn the normal up position. Nomatter what I do, I cannot get them down. Any ideas what caused this and how to get them to return to the porper position.
 
Is your hydralic system staying on demand now, engine laboring. If so, eiether the draft control spool stuck in raise positon, or some internal linkage came unhooked or broke. If it is not on demand, then your sensing link from torsion bar has slipped past upper link and you can get at it from third arm plate in rear and repositon it. May need repair or modification to keep it from happening again. If spool stuck, I usually reach in from rear and push against spool with with long thin screwdriver to lower hitch and usually valve will release then but it may happen again which would require removing and polishing it up or clearing contamination.
 
Remove the top link plate and look inside with a light and you will see and arm or lever coming up from the bottom of the rearend and you will see a lever hanging down from the top , the one on top goes on the back of the one from the bottom these two levers are on the rightside near the rear case . Now it is wise to use a hook or atleast a pair of cloves when trying to get the top one to the back side of the one coming up from the bottom as the top one is heavy spring loaded .Now if the plows are still up whe you go to do tis either use a loader to remove the plows from the three point or Block them up , IF ya don't they will move then likely fall . It also helps to wire back the draft control lever as this will reduce the spring tenchion on the top lever .
 
tractor vet, would this happen with a 656 too? i had the post pounder on the 656 3pt, and while pounding a post, the 3pt suddenly went up way past normal and stayed there.
 
YEs it could be , NOW since i have only worked on a couple 656's in my life time i am not sure that you can get in there like on a large frame tractor as i never had any of the few that i have worked on do this . Most of the work that i did on them was T/A and clutch and shifter work . All but one 656 were tractors that were going to be i a auction and like i said most of the work was on the t/a's . So all i can tell you on this tractor is see if there is a hole behind the top link plate and if there is you home free .
 
I removed plows, removed 3rd link plate, put sensing arm back in proper position and found a lever to make the 3 point go down. However, when restarting the tractor with the control lever in the down position, the 3 point arms jumped up into the high position again. Not sure where to go from here. The hydraulics seems to be on demand all of the time. The factory manual doesn't seem to help with this problem.
 
Weeeellllll, ordinarily if draft control sensing link coming up from bottom has slipped past, your hitch will not go way to the top and will not stay on demand, however hitch will not lower. So if it was indeed off and you got upper spring loaded lever back in behind it and hitch still went all the way up and linkage is still where it belongs, you have a stuck spool valve in the draft control lever itself. If manually operating it and getting it back down, try yanking position control lever back and for several times with out engine running, you may get lucky. Otherwise I would have some one experienced with this hitch take a peek at it before you tear things apart as it is a lot of work to get at the valve. The spool is not forced forward, it relies on spring in valve to return it to lowering position, linkage pulls it rearward to lift but spring must return it forward. You will notice lot of free play on the linkage going into the valve if it is indeed stuck. This was a real problem on early 706 and 806 tractors but never bothered much later on.
