farmall A,B,C style oil pump issues

Does anybody make the bottom plate for these types of pumps? mine was leaking out the side. I wet sanded it, seemed to be ok for awhile but after a few years, the leak is back. I just don"t understand why they would make it out of pewter instead of cast iron.

I've never seen one made out of steel. That said as space and weight aren't critical you could take your old one to a local machinist who could probably make something that will fit out of bar stock. Sam

got a new one from dealer some time ago have you tried them as that pump was used for many yrs so they should still have them

Aluminum might be a better choice for wear (vs steel on steel). Half inch aluminum plate would be easy to work with too. The gasket would give you the location of the holes. I don't recall if there is a bypass or anything in the cover.

Why they were ever made out of pot metal is a mystery.

I straighten the covers before sanding them smooth. The more metal you remove from the cover the worse the problem will be.

I use a piece of steel about 1/4 inch thick by 1/2 inch wide to make a reinforcement bar to keep the gasket from being blown again. Use the bar to span the cover over the area where the gasket blows out. You will have to notch it a little in the middle to clear a rib in the cover. Put a slight bow in the bar so that the middle contacts the cover before it is tighten down completely. You will need to replace the bolts that go through the bar with longer ones so that the thread engagement in the pump housing remains the same.

I have been using this method of repair for about 30 years and have never had a repeat failure of the gasket in any of the pumps repaired. I think that this method is easier than trying to make a new cover.
