M Widefront

1.How easy and how is it to put a widefront on an M

2. How hard is it to find a factory widefront and what do they normally cost?

Thanks for the help!

#1 - Very easy, do it in a couple of hours with a helper.

#2 - Depends where you are, what sort of a rush you're in, and what condition's acceptable. If you want one in decent shape it'll most likely run you over $500.

1) It is easy.
2) It depends on where you live and how lucky you are and how hard you look for one. I am told the early style M factory versions with the tie rods in front take a two-acre field to turn the tractor around. They go in the neighborhood of $350-$450. The later type (standard on SMTA) go more towards $600-$750 and are much more difficult to find. They have the tie rods behind the axle tube. Another alternative is finding a used Schwartz. They are very good and can be found in the $400-$600 range - or new for just over $1k.

Only if the axle is set forward, like you would for cultivators or if you didn't have the adapter plate. Otherwise, it steers more or less like any other wide front end.

My dad has one that he would like to sell. He had it on his H, but I think it was off an M. It has new tires on the front. he had a stroke and cannot use all the equipment anymore.

It took me almost a year to find one in decent shape for $275.00. It was a 5 hour drive to go look at it and get it picked up. It's kind of like a scavenger hunt. It's the original IH with the tie rods out front. The tires were shot and the rims rusted through. I got everything to come apart but the 4" tubes that allow the front end to adjust out. Replaced all of the eroded nuts and lock washers. Then sand blasted and painted. Last but not least repacked the wheel bearings. I intentionally don't keep track but I suspect I have at least as much money in the front end as what I pd for it.

Takes 'bout an hour.

I've got an original wide front off a M complete with the set-back plate, wedges, and all the attaching bolts that I'll give ya for ALMOST nothin'.

Just bring me a single front end for a H with the 17" stamped wheel mounted with a tri-rib.

And this one is in really good shape.

A tiny bit of slack in the wishbone bushing, which is available at any implement outlet.

I'm 65 years old and I'll sure never use it again. Might as well be working for someone else who can use it.

what is the stamp you want on the wheel. I have a single front with a 17 in. new tire 3 rib on it. Would like to work out a trade. I am in central ne.
