Hello Gene Bender

I asked a question the other day about my 48 C Farmall had a dished piston The serial # FMC 9649 D looked it up the D stands for 5000 altiude are the heads on them the same as the flat top pistons gas you said the dished pistons were distulate pistons. Also pistons are a nice tight fit in sleeves do I need to change them or can I ring it and just run gas. Can the head be run with flat top pistons. Thanks for any info. James

I don't want to jump on Genes thread but when you look at the piston, have the rings installed on it and check the gap between the ring and ringland. I wouldn't think anything more then about.004 would be considered good. You don't want the piston rings bouncing up and down. As far as pistons, if you can get a step head piston, get them. The combustion chamber on your head is fairly large. Good Luck,
Charles

I have parted out a few engines with various pistons and the heads had the same part# now being the Cs came after the A,B they could have used a different head. I have a BN that was evidently shipped to Colo with stepped head pistons no other letters on the tractor. I bought the tractor in Canon City
