What about 756?

My friend says I have too much green in my shed and need a different color. Ha, Ha.
I am looking at a 756 with 7000+ hours on it, the engine overhauled, and the unit painted.
Can you tell me what to look for on a 756? Does it have any week points I should be aware of. Oh, it is a diesel. Paul

It's a 40 year old tractor. Like any 40 year old tractor that's still in regular use, there simply aren't any weak points.

What you will find is that literally ANYTHING on the tractor could be wore out. After all, it is 40 years old.

Drive it. Try it in all the gears. Feel the shifter for loose sloppy action. Try the TA under a load if you can, even if it's just the brakes. Look for leaks.

It can all be fixed, all you need is money. You need to figure out how much money you'd be willing to spend to fix the broken stuff.

Of course you can never fully test out the tractor, and anything could break on you 5 minutes after you get it home. You need to figure if it's worth taking the chance. Assume that there's something wrong with the tractor. Otherwise why would the owner be selling it?

I would ask to seem documentation on the overhaul. A shoddy overhaul can be a very expensive lesson down the road. Especially on that motor. Like the other fellow said, look for leaks make sure pto, 3 pt hitch, hydraulics, and steering all function as they should. If it has had good care and a professional quality overhaul it should be a pretty good tractor. Like the other guy mentioned it is 40 years old and stuff does wear out. I can tell you from experience that parts for these 56 series tractors are getting very spendy.

How many hours since the overhaul? If something wasn't right in the job, it will usually show up in the first couple hundred hours.
