I have a 706 282 d it has aknocking noisein the motor when cold the tractor was completly done over 3 years ago when it gets warm its not as bad. i tore it down and found it had all new parts like the man said except they didnt replace the rist pin bushings in the rods so i put new ones in and had them rheemed on a sun like they should be done. i found the sleeves could be pulled out with my hands i put the motor all back together with a new headgaskit torqued it all down with a fresh valve job set the valves by the fireing order as they should be and had all the injectors tested ok the motor runs like a top but it still has the knock the guy put atisco sleeve kitt in it with pistons the pistons seem to be overly loose in the top of the bore the rings were barely seated so i know it hasent ben long since it was done the noise is in the top end iknow it has alot of compresion but the noise is still ther could it be the sleeves should i put a new kitt in it the sn is 62597 on eng help thanks tom ih54.

those engines do have a knocking sound to them. i have 340, 460, 560, and 660,and 706 diesels and they all sound the same.so maybe your worried about a noise that is not a noise.

Those sleeves should be tight in the block, unless you have all sleeves .003 to .004 proud of the deck the noise could be a sleeve bouncing up and down. There are 2 different bore diameters on those blocks. I would re sleeve it with the correct size.

the sleeves are in tolerance with the top of the deck they just pull out of the block easy the book sayes 75 lbs preasure

hard to tell without having the hands on or ears to listen. get a second opion from a qualified mechanic and have him listen to it.if your saying the sleeves push in by hand and deck height is good so that is ok.as long as they just dont fall in.how loud is the knock? is it real distinct? you say not as bad warmed up.do you have the timing set to spec?

Get a 3 buck mechanic's stethoscope from harbor freight and try to pinpoint the knock more closely. Lot easier than tearing down and guessing.

the timeing is right on the mark if you retard the timeing alot the sound realy lightens up but when you give the throtle it breaks up it has a rebuilt pump on it standine couldit be the internal pump timeing ?

if this tractor has a roosa master injection pump the advance in the pump can stick and sounds like the motor is comeing apart basically it is fueling to early you wont notice a power difference just a terrible noise

THE TRACTOR HAS A STANDINE PUMP ON IT SAME AS A ROOSA MASTER I THINK THE TRACTOR ALSO HAS ALOT OF BLACK SMOKE WHEN YOU OPEN IT UP YOU DON,T HEAR IT KNOCK
