1066 tachometer RR

I need to replace the tach due to lense being totally clouded over. I've tried buffing out but figured out it is dirt, etc. on inside of lense. I have a good used tach to replace. Wandering what is best way to get to it - back side. Wandering if the air, fuel, temp gauge cluster can be taken out and get to back side from there.

Mornin' Mike,

Take the 5 capscrews out of the left instrument cluster and ease it back a couple of inches to gain access to the cable, lights and retainer bracket.

Then the tach just slides out rearward.

Thanks Allen !! I figured you had been there done that. Thanks for the pic as that shows me how my brand new not yet here padding for the cowl should look.
On another note, I machined bushing drivers for all that work I did on the front end of that 10 and if you need I could ship to you. I made them for the axle center pivot, steering cylinder yolk and axle spindles. You talk about a dream to drive!!!
Email if you want.

Is the tach you are removing working? I have a new plastic lens I bought off ebay, but my tach is busted.
Allan, they are the same for 966 right?

The tach works fine but I didn't think there was any way to get the chrome ring and lens off of it without tearing it up. Am I wrong? I would prefer to stay with the original.

Yeah,

They're all the same. But, how in the heck to you get that pinched ring off?

I've got a new one too, but just can't get it swapped out.

One thing you need to be real careful of in pulling the dash back, the light switch power terminal is directly in line with the cross brace casting and they invariably get bent or broke. Have seen a jillion switches broken or damaged in my years on these.

Very, very carefully keep going around and pry it up using twisting motion with medium sized flat screwdriver.
Now be very careful when you are reassembling new lens. There is a very this white gasket in there. If this isn't exactly on the tach housing, the needle will hit it and won't go through the entire range, (Don't ask). Suggest you tack glue that gasket in the exact correct position, let it dry before reassembling the lens and ring.

Now is the time to set or reset the hours that you want showing also. Incredible how similar they are to the speedometers in the Fords, 1946 to 1951. DO NOT hammer on the ring when reinstalling. Use large Carpenter wood clamps. Or the pistol grip type with the rubber faces.

Waht is the difference between the used tach and your "original" one? It's easy to reset the hours when you take the ring and lens off.
