Removal of final drive on left side of Farmall B

I am trying to remove the final drive aseembly and I cannot get the long shaft out of the differential because it seems that there is something holding the shaft. I have everything apart on the final drive but the gear at the end of the shaft seems to be to big and I need to remove the shaft to pull th efinal drive assembly off. Is there something i am missing here. Maybe do I have to pull the differential bull gear to get the shaft out of this?

The only thing holding the differential shaft in place is a lock ring on the outer bearing.

When you remove the final drive housing, the shaft should slip out of the differential and come with the final drive housing.

It may be binding because of the brake drum.

You can't really get at the brake drum until you have separated the differential shaft housing from the transmission case. You need to remove the final drive housing and the differential shaft housing as a unit.

Thanks to everyone for helping me out on this Farmall B tractor yesterday I went home and pulled the final drive and extension out of it after 3 good tugs and got it out now and I am trying now to get the brake drum to slide off the axle shaft. I unscrewed the bolt that holds it into place, but I think it just needs more then me tugging on this part and use a puller. Thanks so much for the help everyone.

Paul if it is like my 140, there is a lock bolt on the inside of the brake drum you need to loosen. Once you do that, drive the differential shaft out through the brake drum towards the outside of the final drive with a hammer. You need to remove the bearing cover on the outside of the drive first of course. The drum should come loose after a few good hard hits on the differential shaft.
