140 cultivator with fast hitch

I found a cultivator for my 140, but the owner of the other 140 has a fast hitch. If my 140 doesn't have a fast hitch, will the rear gangs still work? I do have the rear gang mounting brackets, not the fast hitch mounts, they were still on my 140 when I purchased it. Guess I am wondering if I will have any problems mounting that cultivator onto my 140 w/o the fast hitch.

Thanks
shiggy

On my 140 I always had to remove the fast hitch system to put the cultivators on.... but perhaps mine is slightly different - does it look like you are missing any pieces?

I don't have it yet. My 140 does not have the fast hitch. The cultivator I found is mounted on a 140 that has a fast hitch. Looks like the brackets that bolt on the final drives that holds the cultivator are different. I have a set of cultivator brackets on my 140, but it's not the fast hitch brackets. Would that be the only difference? Would the lift rods for the rear gangs be the same? Just trying to find this out before I drive 5 hours to buy the cultivator.

Thanks

I am not sure how you would put a cultivator on a fast hitch... is it a one point fast hitch? having the hitch in the way of whatever you are cultivating makes no sense - the hitch is 4 inches from the ground in the field - not a problem when plowing or discing, but if your corn is 6" high... on mine the rear gangs fit into a one inch hole in the rearend housing and have a link that goes up to the arm

Pics would help

The rears will work with your brackets, the bars the same. The spring rods (uprights) are different but I think you can get a piece of round stock and run it through the holes in your rear rockshaft (lift arms) so that it extends out a few inches on either side (and drill a hole near each end for a pin) and the fast hitch type will work fine. You will need some collars to keep the rod from sliding side to side. Here is a not-so-clear picture:

You need a few pieces to move a 144 from a F-H tractor to non-F-H. Go to the CaseIH site and pull up the parts catalog for the 1-F144 Cultivator. If you have the rear gang beam bearings, you are part way there. Look at figure L-06.

You also will need a rear rockshaft, not part of the cultivator. You will also need the parts required to attach the rear pressure rods to the rockshaft. Look at L-14. The F-H cultivator will not have reference 3,4 or 5. It will have parts similar to 2, but the cross hole is probably a different size. Alternative, you can attach with the parts shown in L-20(A). You will need a pair of reference 3.

You shouldnt have to remove the fast hitch to put the cultivators on .Just take the brakets of the cultivator and slide them into the fast hitch.Shiggy just buy the cultivator its not a big deal to make it fit. I change all the time between fast hitch and regular hitch, you might have to find a cross bar to make it fit on the rock shaft you have now. Not a big deal. Erik..

Daniel, thanks for the pic... on my 140 the bracket that bolt 1 goes thru is part of the rear end housing. Other than the ends of the lift arms the pic is the same as my fast hitch tractor with the fast hitch removed.

Hope it helps shiggy as well...

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to purchase the cultivator. I found a set of fast hitch cultivator brackets for the final drives on ebay. Might just grab them to make sure everything works. My upper rockshaft has a rod going through it now. Since my final drives had the cultivator brackets on it (not fast hitch) one would think the rod running through the rockshaft is the proper one.

It'll be late this week before I can go get the cults. We have snow in the forecast and I can't leave work when that happens.

Thanks for the help
