Flow divider Pilot valve - 2606

Hi, after a year and a half of jacking around with the minimal power steering, I pulled the flow divider and pilot valve assemblies today.

Haven't started on the pilot valve yet but have them on the bench.

I unscrewed and removed the safety valve stop on the back of the flow divider however the safety valve assembly won't come out even while trying to pull it with needle nose pliers. The drawing shows an oring which could be hanging it up but it still won't pull out.

I unscrewed and removed the lockout assembly from the front of the flow divider however the flow divider valve and spring won't come out. It has a couple flat edges that I can get needle nose pliers on but it hangs up even with the end of the body. The drawing doesn't show an oring inside of it.

The adjusting lockout assembly screws in and out like it is supposed to. The flow divider valve can be pushed in almost 3 inches and works back and forth freely. Maybe it is OK.

Question is how do I remove the flow divider valve from the front and the safety valve from the back? I was just going to clean them up, check them out, and stick them back together.

Or should I call the flow divider valve good and move on to the pilot valve and pull it apart?

Does it look like this? If not, please post a picture or part number. I may have a NOS assembly.
 
Wardner, that looks about like it. Instead of a knob on the adjusting valve, mine has a short 1/16" or so diameter rod/pin through the end to turn it. Mine doesn't have a part number except the casting has something that looks like the letter H or M with a 17 after it. The IT-25 manual shows early and late model flow dividers. The only difference I can see is that the early model uses a solid plug to hold the flow divider valve in and the later model uses the adjustable/screwable lockout assembly to hold the valve in. As I recall, it is screwed in to lock out the power steering for stationary operations with the hoe and such. A possible part number is 392665r91.

I went out this morning and pulled the pilot valve apart. Didn't really find anything wrong with it such as a stuck valve or sludge gumming up the works. The valve moved back and forth easily. It has an adjustable relief valve that can be adjusted from the outside so when I reinstall it, I may try adjusting that a little.

Probably won't do it during the super bowl, but this week, I'll probably clean them up and put them back together.

I will try to find some fittings to plug off the relief valve in the flow divider to check it in case it is bad and bypassing. Not sure of any other way to test it since I don't have the equipment to flow rate it. I can't get it out yet to look at it.

I'm just using the process of elimination before I spend the bucks for a pump. I've rebuilt the steering cylinder which help a little. I've had the hand pump out and replaced the top seal where it was leaking out the top when I got it. Can't really tell if the valve in the hand pump is bad but it passes all the tests in the IT manual. I've noticed with this 2606 that a person has to grab the steering wheel to pull yourself up so that kinda explains the top seal problem.

update: Cleaned up the pilot valve and everything seems ok. Just need to buy a new o-ring boss to JIC fitting cause someone used a tapered pipe thread to JIC fitting when the thread is a boss. It didn't leak but I should fix it right.

I tapped the body of the flow divider on my vise and the flow divider valve and spring popped out. Cleaned it up and looks ok.

I pried the safety relief valve out the back of the flow divider with some needle nose pliers. I could blow through through the little hole in the end. Stuck the other end in the vise and unscrewed the screw. Removed the screw and spring. The needle assembly would drop down to the holes in the middle of the valve body but wouldn't come any further. Cleaned it all good with carb spray including through the needle and seat. Installed the spring and screw and I couldn't blow through it any more.

Guess I'll buy some orings and find out on Sunday if the flow divider relief valve was the problem or not.
