The Right Stuff???

I am looking for something to put on new gaskets to keep them from leaking. I know that they should be put on dry or with grease but they still leak. I have a shelf full of stuff such as blue and red RTV, Permetex #2, High-Tack and a 2 year old can of"The Right Stuff" which I have never used. Anyone have any experience with " The Right Stuff" as a gasket coating or using it instead of a gasket? I would like to have one can of stuff instead of all of those cans laying around that can be used for many type jobs. Or is there something else that is good and multi purpose? Thanks.

High Tack or always works well for me never seem to have much in the way of leaks with that product. For head and manifold gaskets use copper coat spray.

The only gasket that you should have problems with is the oil pan gasket, mainly because of warpage. For all other gaskets copper coat is fine. Be sure all the old gasket residue is removed on all of them -- and buy IH gaskets.

"The Right Stuff" is intended more for a gasket replacement I think, but it works great as a sealer in addition to a gasket also. Just use a very light smear when applying it to a gasket. The nice thing about using it in conjunction to a gasket is that gasket removal is easier. No chipping and chopping. Copper Coat is my preference as a gasket sealer when the mating surfaces are even. It too is easier to remove than some sealers.

When used properly as a gasket replacement, "The Right Stuff" blows the doors off any silicon product like RTV, be it copper, blue, black or otherwise. I very seldom use rocker arm cover gaskets any more. I clean the surface with a wire wheel and follow up with laquer thinner then put a bead of The Right Stuff on the cover. After it has skinned over (about ten minutes) I set the covers on a flat oily surface to allow the bead to flaten out and leave them for several hours, often overnight. After installation, the covers can be removed and reinstalled several times without having to redo the Right Stuff gasket.

Of course what works for one person may not find favour with another.

I use and tend to lean toward Case IH "Form-A-Gasket. Works great and stops leaks. Just don"t get it on your hands, its hard to get off!

i sealed up the rear of my h last year, i put a coating of indian head shellac on both sides of the gaskets and put everything back together, its still dry.
