Loctite on clutch plate

Does anyone use loctite on pressure plates? This is on a super a. I followed someones reccomendations to torque the bolts to 35 pounds and I sheared one at 30 pounds. Thankfully I was able to get it out.

No. I don't remember the torque. Just tighten until snug. You can easily overtorque those small bolts.

Use a bolt torque chart and for grade 5 bolts. That number might be inch pounds, not foot pounds!! No locktight is needed. I have never seen a cover bolt get loose. Jim

CNKS, I ment to put this on the original post above, not to your correct reply. I tighten to feel as well, but experience is needed to get that feel. Jim

You're WAY too high on torque for those 5/16 x 18 cap clutch cover screws!

Depending on the grade they should be tightened:

- 7 to 11 ft-lb for grade 2 screws (no head marking)
- 14 to 19 ft-lb for grade 5 (3 marks on head)

Regardless of the grade no way would I exceed about 20 ft-lb for fear of stripping out the flywheel threads.
