clutch adjustment on a 404

Is there an moderately easy, reasonably idiot-proof method of adjusting the clutch on a 62-63ish IH 404? Got a new clutch last year, but now having issues moving between gears and it grinds when applying or dis-engaging the PTO. It seems like if I had a little less clutch pedal play I'd resolve the problem...ideas?

According to the shop manual the clutch pedal free travel is
1 15/16. I had the same problem. when I looked up through the
inspection hole I could see that some of the bolts holding the pressure plate had come loose. Who ever had installed the pressure plate had not finished the job. Can't help if its the transmission.
