farmall 400 ta and clutch ?

why is it that when I want to shift my gears (5 speed) at a stand still, I have to rock the ta lever back and then return it foward, then I can shift most the time. Also, when I pull on the ta lever it feel like gear pressure releases and the tractor rolls a little. Is this normal. I am truck mechanic for over twenty years, so I"m no dummy, but this doesn"t seem right to me. this is my first tractor. ....thanks Tim

It sounds like the main clutch linkage and TA clutch linkage needs to be adjusted.

You need a owners manual as this adjustment HAS to be made according to the instructions in the book! Be sure to read the directions! Armand
