IH Electrall unit on tractor

I had seen the Electrall in the Hundred Years of International Harvester but I had never seen one that I could actually look at till yesterday. One of those things that just didn't catch on I guess. Anybody else ever see one?

Not quite.

I have two gennys and one motor but there is a collector north of Des Moines that may have more than fifty at this point. He can't be outbid.

There is another guy in Indiana that has a few.

I have gotten mine from leads on this site. I have seen several at auctions but did not bid. One should bear in mind that the tractor side-mounts and the IH truck PTO units are the rarest.

Electralls were marketed as an alternative for powering implements, not as standby generators. That probably accounts for their lack of popularity.

That they could be used as a standby generator was secondary on any literature I've seen.

I don't know when farmers finally saw the value in having a PTO generator on the farm... Must've been some time in the 1960s, at least.

Once you have to milk cows by coleman lantern light using a 1969 Chevy Impala and a Farmall Super M for vacuum, the value of a generator really shines true...

That tractor currently has:

1. Right side Electrall (stock)
2. Left side Electrall (not stock)
3. Front Fast Hitch
3a. Front fork lift that plugs into FH
4. Crankshaft driven electric-clutch hydraulic pump
5. Cotton picker PTO (replaces belt pulley gearbox)
5a. CT PTO runs hydraulic creeper gear
5b. CT PTO runs air brake compressor
5c. CT PTO runs left side Electrall
6. Mounted 45hp high pressure water pump off LPTO
7. Planning for FWA using left side bull pinion gear
7a Planning diff lock
8. Planning for two more LPTOs off bottom of LPTO driven gear.
9. I have added PS, Tach, rear FH, electronic ignition, and various electric and hydraualic switches.

What do I use it for? Well, it is good for picking apples but I suppose a ladder might be faster.

Haymaker, I had been to Flywheels show last week and there was a beauty of a 400 with electral outside the IH dealer running for demo.
Real nice I don't think I have a picture.

Sorry Nebraska,

The powers that be will have to bring the RPRU to New England before that tractor shows up at such a meeting. I'm not holding my breath. I usually don't trailer it more than 30 miles.

On the other hand, I suppose that tractor could haul a good sized travel trailer. I wonder how long it would take to get to LaPorte, IN @ 100 miles/day.
