Carburetor Repair

1931 McCormick-Deering 22-36.
It has an IHC carburetor, Ensign design.
I am looking for an IDLE THROTTLE STOP SCREW.
The IHC part number is: 14597 D.
The screw is about 1 1/2 inches long.
It is a 12-28 screw, which my machinist tells me
is an "antique" thread.
I cannot find one from any distributor.
McMaster-Carr, in Chicago, which is a very large parts distributor, does not appear to have one.
The screw is 7/32 in diameter, not 1/4.
Today, a more commonly found screw is 1/4 - 28.

I am thinking of drilling and retapping my hole for a 1/4 -28 screw. I have THAT screw and tap.

Does anyone know of where I can find the original 12-28?

I have a call in to Rice Equipment in Pennsylvania, which may offer hope.

Tom

I know nothing of gunsmithing, but I've found some rather odd screws over the years by stopping at an old gunsmith's shop. Might be worth a try.

Also, GOOGLING 12-28 screw, there's LOTS of results, seems someone would have them.

You are confusing the #12 screw with the 1/4" and 7/32" diameter screws.

The #12 refers to wire gauge, not diameter. A #12-28 screw will measure 0.1820" in diameter.

Hey, Tom, I found this online, it looks like GM used that size screw.

I think I might have one or two of those headlight adjusting screws, I will check and see if they are really 12-28.
