I know i"ve seen this before on this forum but what John Deere fluid (or other offered thru TSC or the like) is compatible with the HY-TRAN sold by Case IH? Can someone "enlighten" me again on this?

You can use most any hydraulic oil in IH and get along just fine. You can even use the JD HY Guard in the IH tractors and get along just fine.

But JD has to have JD fluid or the hydraulic brakes will get to chattering on some JD models.

The JD fluid has an additive to keep the brakes from chattering.

This is what I was told some 30 years ago.

Why would you take that chance that its compatible ? I wouldnt use any thing but HI-TRAN in my IH tractor. Oil is cheap compared to transmision repairs. Erik..

It says right on John Deere's website that HyGuard is HyTran compatible.

Most all of the hydraulic/transmission style oils these days meet a national standard. MS1206 or MS1209... I can't remember exactly which. Whatever that is, it's good enough for CaseIH and John Deere, or else the generic brands could not legally put "HyTran Compatible" or "HyGuard Compatible" on their labels.

Your oil products for your tractor is not made by that company. If you look on the bucket it says distributed by. Sometimes your dealer will tell you what oil company is packageing it at the time. CaseIH and JD could be buying it from the same oil company. Mobil, Phillips and Shell would have the same oil in their pails as Jd or CaseIH. Would stay away from TCS or other stores like that because the additive package that makes a good oil may not be in theirs.

In those types of stores, I usually see 2 grades of hydraulic oil. The chaper one is usually labeled "hydraulic oil" and that is about all. The better one usually has some legitimate specs listed on the can. The better one is usually Hy-Tran compatible. Bottom line, read the labels and check for compatible specs.

All Case/IH oil is blended and packaged by Viscosity Oil a subsidirary of FL Selena, an Italian company. They also package Cub cadet, Link Belt and New Holland branded oil. Viscosity Oil has been bought and sold several times in last few years and have sub contacted the oil blending and packaging to several different companys.

Have been looking at Viscosity Oil web site and noticed interesting item (at least to me) on Hy Tran under history @1961.

I use orscheln 303 in yellow bucket. compatible with hytran. on sale now for $22 a 5 gal. bucket. It is a multi viscosity oil.

We used and still use different brands. but we only use a major name brand, Shell, Pennzoil, or Citgo. We used a cheap oil, I think it was Pitt-Penn, one time and within the month had replaced nearly every hose on the backhoe. We went back to the name brand oil.
