Last fall looked at Farmall 300 4-sale, may go back to look. Tractor all beatified, but steering wheel nut loose and bushing? holding the shaft gone,so that you could move the shaft with the steering wheel 1/4 inch or so..Is it common to have to replace this bushing or shim,or has this girl just seen that much work....draw pin hole not exactly cylindrical. I am not too famalier with the 300. Appreciate your suggestions

Any of your farm tractors that old have seen a lot of work. Hardly any of them were bought to sit in town somewhere. A 300 is over 50 years old.

Any part of it could be worn out or has been replaced. But you can still have a very good tractor that can start all over again.

By bushing I assume you mean the piece on top of the steering post that the shaft goes through. That is a common wear point. Don't know if the aftermarket has them or not. Used ones are available, or that one can be repaired. You won't find many drawbar holes that are not worn. The tractor has probably been painted for sale, there may or may not be significant problems with it. Paint is often used to sell, and is meant to detract from other defects.

It just seemed to me this could be an obvious repair to a tractor that appears so nice. The shifter did not have the usual pin but a bolt, the draw pin hole oblong about 2 inches. The tractor looks great and runs smoothly.....some tractors are used considerably more than others....

I always redo the drawbar holes. Drill them oversize, braze in a new correct sleeve/bushing, grind polish with flap wheels, body filler, prime and paint. Hour and a half labor tops and a dollar for materials.
Same for the steering shaft bushing. If you can't do it any machine shop can. But it's labor intensive to strip the entire pedestal and shaft.
