Hydro 86 Update

Well gang, I went to look at the Hydro 86 today, The tractor runs like a brand new one, it was around 1 degree celcius today, its started up on the 3 turn and not one puff of blue or white smoke! So far I was amazed!! I let it warm up for a bit, checked for leaks, all looked real good. So off I went for a drive, started off in low range, Tractor took right off. So I figured I would put her right to the test. Slamed on the brakes, the tractor stopped, and the engine hardly died. DARNIT!!!!!!! well I knew it was to good to be true
Same in reverse

BUT!!!

I noticed 3 things that is giving me hope.

1 no akward noises the trans is VERY SURPRIZINGLY quiet, no cavitation or ariation noise

2 parked on a bit of a grade in neutral the tractor does not drift what so ever and when u go from full forward to neutral the trans brakes thes tractor very firmly!!

3 He told me that the tractor has had all the pumps replaced. and evidence of this is very obvious because they were STUPID and used silicon instead of gaskets!! maybe there is some silicon plugging something???? He also said he had someone do some pressure tests and that the mechanic told him they were ok but i am not getting my hopes up

Soooo...... Well............. Ok I bought it. 3500 cash, delivered half way, and he threw in the 2 BRAND NEW NOT EVEN INSTALLED 15.5-38 Firestone tires! So I figure I sell the tires, and do some troubleshooting

So let the suggestions BEGIN!!!! Any suggestion will be used!!

What pressures should I be at?
Relief Valves? Check Valves??

Let me have'em

Thanks in advance,
pics to follow soon

Well congratulations Matt. I seen the tractor was sold this after noon and i was hoping you got it. I think you made a great deal. I have an hydro 86 i just bought this winter and i paid a lot more than what you paid. I would like to help you but im not a mechanic. I do have an IH blue ribbon service book on that tractor ,if there is any thing you want me to look up let me know. Erik..

Congradulations Matt. That tractor is in awesome shape. I talked to him friday nite, and would have bought it if it wasn't 6 hours away.
Which pump was rebuilt? Injection orhydro? Thanks Kent

Well, the first thing I would do is cap the lines coming from hydro to control valve with "steel" caps. This will tell you if weak hydostatic drive is internal or external. Could be as simple as a leaking foot n-inch valve. Also, verify that the two lines have not been reversed as this will give you low drive pressures also. Caution when you do this as you will have no contol of motion with the foot n inch pedal, only the SR (speed ratio) lever. Do it out in the open spaces.

Yes, this will eleminate all external valves etc. If it does work ok capped off, then be sure to double check them lines. They are very easily reversed. And, you indeed got a deal, working or not.

I get the tractor home this week I hope, just got off the line with the fleet manager where the tractor came from (ex government tractor) He has a complete service record for it! Pretty sure the problem is internal, found brass pieces

Oh well, I can do the work myself so that cuts out half the cost!
