Dirty gas tank on H, stub-up

I have an H with a dirty tank. I have washed it several times and short of coating it, I want to extend/"stub up" the pick-up tube about an inch or so. I tried a piece of rubber tubing, but one large enough to slip over the stub will not go through the hole in the bottom of the tank.
What is the easiest way to get this done?
Thanks,
JD

I always drill and tap the inlet hole in the sediment bowl to accept 1/8" pipe thread, then just screw in an appropriate length pipe nipple. Works like a charm for me. Drawback is you loose a tiny bit of capacity, but it's minimal at best. I've always found that most 3/8" male pipe sediment bowl inlets have more than enough thickness to be drilled and tapped without any issues. Just be sure to thoroughly clean the sediment bowl after you're done to prevent any metal shavings from reaching your carb.

I eliminated the sediment bowl and installed a 3/8" brass nipple, then T then 3" nipple and then a cap. All vertical so far. This acts as a dirt leg for the sediment. Coming out of the horizontal part of the T I insalled a close nipple, 3/8" ball valve and then a 3/8" MIP x 5/16" barbed adapter. Then a gravity type fuel filter fron NAPA. That will eliminate any and all problems. I have done this on multiple tractors for multiple years with no issues.

I just drill the inlet to accept a short piece of copper tubing. I fashon a sock out of some fine fuel screen a got years ago at OSH. No more problems. Take it out every few year and drain the sediment.

I drill the inlet hole on the sediment bulb housing to accept a 1/4" copper tube. Usually cut the coppertubing so it sticks about 3/4 - 1" above the bottom of the gas tank. I drill the hole small enough that I have to wedge the tubing down into it. You could probably drill the hole bigger & use a gas tank repair compound to hold he tubing in but I have yet to have one come loose.
